Can't be more inventive about this product except to say that my son does a lot of research before deciding what he would like, so I guess that's as good as it gets. Very good sound and also able to plug in their ipod and listen to their own music that way. The radio was a Christmas present for my son and daughter in law in California. They have reported that the radio is excellent and they are extremely pleased with it.
And it's so darn small and handsome. This unit's refreshing simplicity leaves you free to re-live the days of early radio, and find new joy as you and your family gather around to tune in to your favorite stations. This is a classy, high quality piece of audio equipment with amazing sound and an unobtrusive footprint. There is absolutely no frills between your ear and the airwaves.
A close look at the componentry reveals this is the same electronic junk that has flooded this country since the American manufacturers threw in the towel. The sound is OK but nothing to rave about. I've had 30 year old Sony table radios that sounded just as good or better. I'd heard many positive reviews for these radios, and figured that plus the astronomical price must mean it's got something going for it. This is a classic case of the placebo effect - it looks cool, and the box raves about it's superiority, so everyone just jumps on the bandwagon. Other than the heavy wood cabinet, this is a run of the mill table radio. Wrong. The reception is no better than any other radio, including the FM tuner in my cell phone - even with an external antenna.
Although the tuning dial has a ratio that gives you some extra turning to tune in the right spot, the exact station location is easy to tune past (for the broadcast I am looking for) and the little yellow light doesn't have much leeway with respect to brightness. I do not know whether an FM antenna would fix this or not. I like the sound the radio produces very much. The antenna must be positioned just so for any of this to happen. The good antennas are not cheap and I was trying to keep my investment to the price of the unit. I only use it to listen to the Red Sox. I find 2 things a little disappointing.
On some radio stations I have to turn the radio a certain direction to get good reception, also when I walk around the room depending on where I'm standing I get interference on some stations. This is a great radio the only issue I have with it is that the FM reception should be stronger. On the scale of 0 to 10, 10 being best, this radio is a 9. As a whole though this is a great radio. Not that it is bad. The FM reception is good but for the money I paid for this product I should get great FM reception.
